Today I am glad to share that Cyber Kindness is live, along with our new home at cyberkindness.org.uk.
This campaign has been a long time in the making. It comes from something I have felt for years and have heard echoed by so many people across the industry. We cannot build a safer digital world if the people doing that work are being harmed, silenced or pushed out by toxic behaviour.
Why Cyber Kindness Exists
Cyber security runs on trust, yet too many of the people inside it are expected to tolerate behaviour that would not be accepted in most other professions. Bullying, harassment, gatekeeping and exclusion are often waved away as banter, rigorous debate or simply the way things are. I have watched talented people lose their confidence, their voice and sometimes their careers because of it. Cyber Kindness is here to challenge that, and to treat kindness as a professional standard rather than a nice to have.
What Kindness Is a Security Control Means
The name is deliberate. How people are treated is not separate from how secure an organisation is. People who feel safe will speak up, report mistakes, ask the awkward question and challenge an assumption before it becomes an incident. People who feel afraid will stay quiet. Abuse is not expertise. Silence is not neutrality. Kindness is not weakness. When we protect the humans behind the work, we help protect the work itself.
What You Will Find Here
The website is the home of the campaign. You can read and sign the pledge, a short public commitment to a kinder and more respectful industry. You can explore free resources for individuals, organisations, events and educators. You can read stories from across the profession, shared anonymously where that feels safer. And you can find the way in that fits you, whether you want to take a small personal step or bring Cyber Kindness into your whole organisation.
How to Get Involved
Getting started takes very little. Take the pledge and add your name. Share the campaign with people who need to hear it. If you want to do more, become an ambassador, bring the resources to your team or display the pledge at your next event. Every name and every voice helps shift what this industry treats as normal.
