I am neurodivergent and I process things differently. In one team that was treated as a problem rather than a strength. I was talked over in meetings, left off invites and told I was hard work. I had my resignation letter drafted. What kept me was a lead in another department who saw how I worked and said the issue was the environment, not me. He helped me move teams.
Two years on I am still in the industry and doing some of the best work of my career. I think about how close I came to leaving, and how many others quietly do.
